Design led feasibility studies for two north London estates with a focus on phased regeneration that allows for on-site rehousing of residents in one move
Identified as a priority for renewal, the two estates explored in this high level study suffer from low quality existing buildings and layouts, resulting in poor resident conditions. The feasibility study focused on creating well defined street-based layouts with great new homes framing high quality public and communal amenity spaces. Using a typology-led approach, we ensured that a good mix of high quality homes was embedded in each proposal. Each proposal interrogated the phasing to ensure that the project could be delivered in stages, and that existing retained parts of the estates benefitted equally from the regeneration. Starting with infill buildings, the layouts allowed for a single movement of residents within the estate to their new homes, removing the need for off-site relocation.
