Repurposing a locally listed building in central Croydon

Millett’s Corner is a prominent locally listed Victorian building in the heart of Croydon’s bustling Surrey Street market which has been active since the 13th century. Run down and partially disused the proposed refurbishment to the building aims to bring new residential accommodation to central Croydon. Together with a re-configured retail offering at ground floor the mixed-use proposal will deliver 18 bed-spaces within three self-contained HMOs (Homes of Multiple Occupancy).

In recognition of the building’s locally listed status, its prominent location and the qualities of the Central Croydon Conservation Area to which it contributes, the design focuses on internal changes which work within the original external architectural features and character.

The return to active use for this prominent building embraces the need for more flexible and unique residential accommodation in central urban areas.
