9 affordable homes on a challenging infill site in Monks Hill, as part of Brick By Brick’s ‘Croydon Smaller Sites Programme’

Shepherds Court sensitively responds to its steeply sloping site to deliver unique homes in a small block that nestles into its context. The block continues the residential frontages along the street with angled setbacks to create focused areas for communal amenity, doorstep play and new tree planting.

The expression of three clustered forms breaks down the overall mass to reflect the grain of the surroundings and to overcome the challenges of overlooking and topography on site. The forms are presented in three different brick colours with balconies set into the corners of each block to dissolve the silhouette of the building.

The building creates pockets of green space along the street edge, celebrating the green character of the Monks Hill estate.
