LFA 30 Objects in 30 Days: The Mural
NEWS
The London Festival of Architecture invited Sally Lewis to contribute to the 30 Objects in 30 Days project. Sally’s response to the 2022 theme of ‘Act’ was ‘The Mural’.
Murals have been around since the first humans created paintings on cave walls. We now know them as an integral part of the urban fabric we weave through every day. These acts of expression offer a sense of local identity and pride, a medium for political or social commentary, or simply adding some colour and interest to otherwise plain building facades.
For South Acton, a council estate in the process of regeneration and transformation, art on the walls has brought the community together and celebrated the estate’s history through this process of change, from paintings on the walls of buildings earmarked for future regeneration, to a community mural created in one of the early phases.
Watch the video below to find out how the South Acton Tree of Life came to fruition and the residents’ opinions on the community inspired mural.
